The Agrobiodiversity Data Consortium is a collaborative project dedicated to support the conservation and use of agricultural & forest biodiversity data.
We know that, of the 7,000 crops used for food by humans throughout history, only 12, together with 5 animal species, provide 75% of the world’s food today. Agricultural biodiversity is a unique resource for environmentally friendly development in a climate change world under population stress.
Imagine a world where smallholder farmers could easily access information regarding crop species and varieties, appropriate for their production systems, that are climate resilient, pest or disease resistant, nutritious or potentially profitable. Creating such a world is already within our grasp, but limited by the fragmented inadequate indexing of available data.
